Job Description

CEO , Dartmoor Foundation

The Dartmoor Foundation is an exciting new charity created by Dartmoor National Park Authority to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Act of Parliament that established National Parks in England. The Dartmoor Foundation will share the National Park’s vision, as expressed in the Dartmoor Partnership Plan, but will work autonomously, looking ahead towards 2100 – the next 75 years of Dartmoor National Park.

Dartmoor National Park has ambitious plans to make Dartmoor even better for future generations: climate resilient, nature rich, beautiful, connected to the past and looking to the future - a place where people of all ages and backgrounds can live, work and visit. In real terms, core funding for the National Park has reduced by over 40% since 2011 and the vision for the Park’s next 75 years can only be realised with other, significant forms of income.

The Dartmoor Foundation will be a small, nimble organisation which can leverage both philanthropy and commercial activity to support specific projects which further the shared vision for Dartmoor National Park. As an autonomously run and governed organisation, it will work with different constituencies in and around Dartmoor to achieve this.

£65 000 - £80 000- Dependent on experience

Due to this exciting development the newly created board is seeking a CEO to turn this vision into practical reality. The successful candidate will have the skills and determination to build a leading public benefit investment vehicle that can make a significant positive difference for Dartmoor.

Reporting to the Chair of Trustees, responsibilities will include;

  • Working with the Trustees, the Dartmoor National Park Authority and other partners, developing and delivering an ambitious strategic plan to help implement areas of the Dartmoor Partnership Plan.
  • Building a small, highly effective team developing and promoting a strong culture of collaboration,communication and delivery.
  • Developing a programme of fundraising to deliver agreed priorities and projects and create sustainable streams of income and investment.
  • Developing strong funding relationships with large charitable foundations and investors.
  • Building and overseeing a wide and complex network of relationships including the National Park Authority, through which projects will be delivered and ultimately, the success of the foundation will depend.

Who are we looking for?

Potential candidates for this unique position will be proactive, entrepreneurial individuals with experience of developing teams, building partnerships and providing innovative, ambitious organisations with strong leadership that produces tangible results.

You will be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in the National Park’s core purposes and be comfortable working alongside boards and advisors.

A strategic thinker, you will also have fundraising experience and be able to demonstrate a track record of building relationships with funders / investors, structuring proposals, overseeing grants / investments, and raising significant funds.

You will have excellent communication and engagement skills, evidenced across a wide range of communities, disciplines, and different areas of expertise and be able to work on your own initiative. This is a rare opportunity to help make a real difference to the future of Dartmoor.
